Pastoral Care and Support
We recognise that the transition from KS4 to KS5 and from Sixth Form to life beyond can be a difficult time. Students can face a number of challenges, managing the academic leap from GCSEs to post-16 education and taking more responsibility for themselves. Being a relatively small school and sixth form, we pride ourselves on knowing every young person. 
Being ‘known and loved’ ensures that our students, not only make the most of their abilities and achieve fantastic grades, but are happy during their time at St Oscar Romero. Each student is a member of a tutor group and their tutor is the person who is responsible for monitoring their well-being and academic performance. In addition, the Head of Sixth Form, and a dedicated pastoral manager will take overall responsibility for the pastoral welfare of all students in the sixth form. They are supported by our School Counsellor and full-time School Chaplain. Our tutor programme will include sessions in PSHE, careers guidance, and current affairs along with regular assemblies led by staff and external speakers. A fundamental part of Sixth Form life at Romero’s will be the weekly study skills sessions embedded within the tutor programme. These sessions will support students in making good use of their independent study sessions, and managing their time effectively. We recognise the importance of regular feedback and communication with parents. A report is published every half term detailing academic performance and attitude to learning. Alongside a Sixth Form Parents’ Evening, tutors will be in regular contact with parents through email, telephone calls and personal meetings where necessary. We value our Sixth Form students as individuals and as leaders of our school community. Our pastoral provision aims to ensure that their transition from school to life beyond is a happy and successful one.
Financial Support
The 16-19 Bursary Fund is designed to help support those young people who face the greatest barriers to continuing in education or training post 16. Bursary funds are to be used to help pay for the costs related to participation in full-time education, such as the costs of transport, equipment, books, travel, exam costs, school meals, trips, and visits. Students who meet the criteria are invited to apply for a bursary which will be allocated based on individual need.
