The nature of the dress code is ‘Business Dress’ and has been informed by
three key following principles:

  1. Our mature and adult ethos and that our Sixth Form is a place of work.
  2. Preparation for the ‘professional world’.
  3. Ensuring our students are role models to the lower school.

Key Principles

Boys: a suit, shirt with collar and sleeves, tie (compulsory) and smart/formal shoes, Sixth Form lanyard / ID badge and pass. Smart trousers, e.g. chinos are acceptable.

Girls: a knee (or near knee) length skirt or dress or trousers, with a blouse or shirt accompanied by a cardigan/blazer (optional) and smart/formal shoes Sixth Form lanyard / ID badge and pass.

The Sixth Form approach to makeup, jewellery and hairstyles will be more relaxed than in Years 7-11 but we would ask for students’ and parents/carers support with the following:

Makeup: If worn should be professional and discrete.

Hairstyles: Must also fit our professional environment e.g. no extremes of styles, colours or colour differences. As a guide hair must not be of a colour that could not be naturally grown.

Jewellery: No visible piercings or retainers in anything other than the ears. Plastic nose stud (retainers) are acceptable. Recent piercings are not a reason to negate this principle. Should any piercings contravene these principles, students will be asked to remove them and if required not be permitted to attend until the matter is resolved.

Tattoos: Body art is increasingly popular. It is unlawful for any student to have a permanent tattoo before the age of 18. Any tattoos or body art must not be visible at any time of the school day/year. Should anything contravene this, students will be asked to cover the area/s and if required not be permitted to attend until the matter is resolved.

Mobile phone use is permitted in the Sixth Form Centre e.g. Ennismore Room and garden, in lessons if directed by the teacher and in Study Periods to play music (through headphones). They are not permitted during Period 13 Bi-Weekly Assessments and are handed into the supervising teacher. Additionally, we ask that our students do not use their phones when in the main school building in front of younger students to model a positive example.
